Design Services

Building the right team is crucial for a successful project. The Design & Construction group has established strong relationships with local and national design professionals and sub-consultants, ensuring access to top-tier expertise. Partnering with the WVU Procurement team, we facilitate competitive selections and provide the guidance needed to secure a solid design team. 

Throughout the design process, we engage essential professional services, including environmental assessments, geotechnical and materials testing, commissioning, and specialized design elements such as digital displays, interiors, furniture, and branding. Our Project Managers collaborate closely with design professionals and stakeholders to define a clear project scope, track schedules, and manage budgets effectively. For large-scale projects, we oversee the full design process, from schematic phases through final construction documentation. When agility is required, we streamline design efforts to accelerate project delivery. Our goal is to align scope and budget seamlessly while ensuring timely execution.

Our Project Managers ensure designs align with WVU standards, seamlessly integrating architectural elements into the campus fabric while prioritizing sustainability and energy efficiency. Through meticulous planning and adherence to best practices, we create environments that enhance functionality, aesthetic cohesion, and long-term sustainability.

Bidding/Procurement Services

During procurement, the Project Manager collaborates with design professionals, stakeholders, and the procurement team to determine the optimal delivery method following WVU procurement rules, policies and best practices.  Our experienced team navigates various approaches, from informal small project bids to formal capital project solicitations, including design-bid-build, design-build, and construction manager at risk. This process ensures competitive bidding and best-value procurement.

Construction Administration Services

During the construction phase the Project Manager collaborates with design professionals and contractors to ensure the project is delivered on schedule and on budget with the quality expected.  Our team manages contracts, reviews and processes payments, administers change directives, change orders, and budget reviews throughout the construction phase.  Throughout construction our in-house superintendents and project engineers coordinate with building supervisors and stakeholders to schedule outages and coordinate deliveries to minimize disruption of campus.  They oversee onsite work, enforce quality control standards, and promote safety protocols to ensure a successful project.

Close Out Services

Starting at Substantial Completion, the Project Manager will collaborate with design professionals and contractors to compile a comprehensive turnover package, including attic stock, as-built documentation, and operations & maintenance manuals for WVU maintenance and stakeholders. They facilitate the collection and distribution of space and asset management information for the project. Then finally, after all payables are complete any remaining budget is returned to its source.
